The USB Alumni Association’s ExCo takes care of the overall strategy and operations of the Association. The president and the chairperson of the Association represent the School’s alumni on the USB Advisory Board. The ExCo meets twice a year, and comprises the following people:

  • The president of the USB Alumni Association
  • The national chairperson of the USB Alumni Association, as elected by USB Alumni ExCo from the ranks of the chairpersons of the Regional Committees of the Association
  • Chairpersons of the Regional Committees of the Association
  • A maximum of two prominent alumni, nominated by the Exco
  • The director of USB (ex officio)
  • The head of USB’s Marketing and Stakeholder Relations (ex officio)
  • The CEO of USB-ED (ex officio)
  • The marketing executive of USB-ED (ex officio)
  • The manager of USB’s Alumni Office (ex officio).

The current president of the USB Alumni Association is Prof Prieur du Plessis, professor extraordinaire at USB and executive chairman of Plexus Asset Management. The current chairperson of the USB Alumni Association’s Exco is Isa Omagu, general manager of Guaranty Trust Bank plc, Nigeria.

Prof Prieur du Plessis

President: USB Alumni Associations

Prof Prieur du Plessis is the chairperson of the investment management business Plexus Holdings, which he founded in 1995. He is a member of the Advisory Board of USB, a trustee of PPS Holdings Trust, chairperson of Grindrod Asset Management Holdings, deputy chairperson of the Institute of Directors in South Africa and director of the Distell Group. Prof Du Plessis is also a professor extraordinaire at USB and the Honorary Consul General of Slovenia for South Africa.


Isa Omagu

Exco Chair: USB Alumni Association West Africa

Isa Omagu graduated top of his class in Chemistry at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, in 1988, after which he obtained masters’ degrees in Economics (University of Lagos, Nigeria), Business Administration (IESE Business School, Spain) and Development Finance (USB). He is currently general manager of Guaranty Trust Bank plc, Nigeria. Mr Omagu’s professional career of almost three decades has been spent in teaching, auditing and foreign trade supervision, and includes extensive experience in institutional and commercial banking.


Nkosinathi Matu

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association Western Cape

George Matu rose from humble beginnings to CEO and director of various companies, including his own. He attributes his career to his unwavering will to succeed, his hunger for learning and his firm belief in ubuntu. Mr Matu is committed to being a catalyst to propel others to achieve their full potential. His philosophy of building a nation by helping others is evident from his work as a lecturer, tutor and mentor at a number of universities, business schools and NPOs and from his engagement with communities in general.

Greg Clack

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association Eastern Cape

Greg Clack is the Engineering Manager at an international automotive component company. He holds an Electrical Engineer’s Certificate of Competency, a diploma in Management Development and a diploma in Electrical Engineering from NMMU. In 2004, he graduated with an MBA from USB. He is currently vice-president of the Institution of Certificated Mechanical and Electrical Engineers of South Africa.


Nirvana Rampersad

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association Gauteng

Nirvana Rampersad, a professional chemical engineer, works at Anglo Platinum as a PMO Workstream Manager in Operations Functions. She plays a pivotal role in achieving the company’s strategic objectives and deliverables through managing, scheduling, budgeting, implementing and quality controlling all the projects handled by Operations Functions. Her main objective is to maximise value for the organisation. Her extensive operational, strategic and leadership experience in a mining, production, manufacturing and capital projects environment includes knowledge of oil and gas, specialty chemicals manufacturing, and mineral processing. She has strong problem solving, planning, communication and leadership skills.

Zibu Mthiyane

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association KZN

Zibu Mthiyane is the CEO of Zoluhle Polymerics and MBA alumnus of USB. She has been selected as a Mandela Washington Fellow for 2015 as part of President Barack Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). Mthiyane has also served as a board member for the Power Institute for East and Southern Africa (PIESA) where her passion for both energy and African development was ignited.

Elyssa Spreeth

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association Mpumalanga

Elyssa Spreeth, an electrical engineer, works at Sasol in Secunda and focuses on the commercial aspects of project management. She has project and engineering management experience in open-pit and underground mining as well as petrochemicals. She obtained her MBA cum laude at USB.


Jakkie Coetzee

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association Namibia

Jakkie Coetzee is Director of Africa Commercial Vehicles (Iveco) in Windhoek, Namibia. He fulfilled the position of General Manager at Iveco from 2010 to 2016. Prior to that, he was Financial Manager at JHI, Namibia. He holds a BComm Hons (Management Accounting) from Stellenbosch University and an MBA from USB.


Dr Josephat Kiweu

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association East Africa

Dr Joséphat Kiweu, an alumnus of USB, obtained his PhD on the commercialisation of microfinance institutions in Africa. He is a senior lecturer at Strathmore University, School of Management and Commerce, a researcher and consultant. He has spent more than 23 years of his career refining his professional skills and expertise in Financial Management.


Dr Mehran Zarrebini

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association UK

Mehran Zarrebini, CEO at PFE International Inc., specialises in strategy, start-ups, buy-outs, acquisitions, turnarounds, manufacturing and international sales. He assists companies to innovate and develop unique and efficient business processes to enable them to transform into powerful brands and inspiring cultures, and to increase their financial performance. Mr Zarrebini has worked in the flooring, plastic extrusion, property and recycling industries in South Africa and Southern Africa.

Matlhogonolo Sebate

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association Botswana

Matlhogonolo Sebate is a specialist African investment advisor with his own company. A keen investor, his consulting expertise balances theory and practice in areas such as economics, development finance and strategy. He believes that his active and passive (opposed to static) approach to investments in Africa and the diversity of projects in which he has been involved throughout the value chain have honed his skills to give advice on investment themes such as private equity, development finance, investment funds and direct investments. Mr Sebate also guides governments on economic and financial policies to stimulate growth and development.

Dr Geraldine Gina Abaidoo

Chairperson: USB Alumni Association Ghana

Dr Geraldine Gina Abaidoo holds a DBA and MBA ACII, MCIM and a chartered insurer qualification. She is the lead consultant for FINNET Solutions Ltd, a firm that provides consulting services and deployment of best business solutions to create synergic value and business growth.  Geraldine has expertise in business strategy, business risk assessment and training.  She has experience in new business initiatives such as Bancassurance partnerships and customer-centric initiatives. She has strong negotiation, planning, communication and leadership skills and she serves on various committees. She is an adjunct lecturer at the Ghana Insurance College and an inhouse peer reviewer of the Journal of Functional Education. She obtained her Doctorate in Business Administration (Project Management) from Walden University, USA.


Anneke Heckroodt

Interim chairperson: USB Alumni Association Dubai

Anneke has an MBA (USB). She is a Consumer Insight Specialist and Managing Director at Lateral Dimensions.


Pieter Uys

Prominent alumnus

Pieter Uys, a USB MBA alumnus, is part of the executive management structure of Remgro Ltd. He is head of Strategic Investments at Remgro Ltd. He joined the investment holdings company Remgro in April 2013 after having served as Vodacom's CEO for four years, having joined the company over 20 years before that.


Michael Lee

Chairperson: Special Interest Group: Futures

Michael Lee has been CEO of the ATM Industry Association ( since 2005, a non-profit global trade association with over 5 500 members in 66 countries, overseeing an industry with an installed base of over 3 million ATMs.  He is a qualified futurist, a full member of the Association of Professional Futurists and author of Knowing our Future – the startling case for futurology and Codebreaking our Future – deciphering the future’s hidden order. Lee also serves on the Business board and Futurists board of Lifeboat Foundation – Safeguarding Humanity ( ) and was recently selected for the USB Futures Alumni Committee.
